Ron Philips
In May 1997, Ron became one of three elders appointed to the Southwestern church of Christ.
Ron was baptized into Christ in July 1972 and has continued in His service since that time, teaching bible classes, presenting sermons and song leading. Ron loved taking care of education for up to fifteen teachers to include curriculum, assignments, training and long range planning. He later became deacon of education and teacher training along with several other duties.
Ron’s secular education was in Management and Marketing along with his supervisory and management training for some 30 years at American Electric Power (AEP), which has helped tremendously in his work as a leader in the church.
Ron married his late wife Carole in 1966–almost fifty years. Carole’s support, dedication and knowledge of the bible helped Ron accomplish the many goals he set for himself and the church. Along with the congregation and other elders, Ron made the decision to continue to serve as elder.
After being married for twelve years, Ron and Carole had one son, Michael, a blessing beyond measure after all those years. He grew up in the church and has used his talents to preach, teach and has a great voice and talent for song leading. Michael and his wife of over 20 years, Kelly, have two children Maddi and Jackson, now teenagers, and wonderful grandchildren.
Ron is currently a local Realtor and enjoys helping families find homes but most of his life and heart has been devoted to the church at the Southwestern congregation.

Greg Raterman
Greg was born in Dayton, Ohio and was raised in the Catholic church. He moved to Columbus in 1966, started working for General Motors and received an engineering degree. In 1970, Greg and his wife, Mary, were married, he was baptized into Christ and the two of them began working with Southwestern church of Christ. In the 70’s Greg served six years in the Ohio Army National Guard and had a house built that they still live in. They have three children: Cynthia, Cheryl and Brian, and two grandchildren. Greg has served in many areas in the church and became an elder on May 4, 1997. His hobbies are fishing, stamp collecting, nature and gardening. Greg has more time for nature since retirement and leads the butterfly observers group of the Ohio Lepidopterists. He specialize in moths and has his own website. Greg has volunteered with Columbus Metro Parks for 11 years monitoring butterflies. They started tent camping in the 1970’s and still do so. Lately, Greg and Mary have mixed in traveling around the world while they enjoy good health.
